Project Overview

This project will extend Bryant Farms Road by approximately 0.4 miles from Elm Lane to Rea Road. It will also improve the intersection of Elm Lane, Blakeney Heath Road and Bryant Farms Road and provide a signalized intersection at Rea Road and Bryant Farms Road. The project will include pedestrian and bicycle facilities, curb and gutter, an 8-foot planting strip, street lights and landscape buffers in selected areas. The project design process will include traffic analysis, storm water quality management plan and a sediment and erosion control plan.

The project will provide an alternate east-west route parallel to Ardrey Kell Road and Ballantyne Commons Parkway, which will help alleviate increasing traffic congestion in this rapidly growing area due to a high level of new development.

Project Goals

  • To help alleviate traffic congestion
  • To increase connectivity
  • To provide safe alternative transportation choices for bicyclists and pedestrians

Public Involvement

During the planning phase, the project team will hold public meetings to get community feedback and present design options. The following public meetings are planned or have taken place:

  • October 28, 2021 - Virtual public meeting (watch recording on YouTube)
  • December 11, 2019 at South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church (in combination with the South Charlotte Reinvestment Program)
  • May 16, 2019 at South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church (in combination with the South Charlotte Reinvestment Program)
  • April 20, 2023 at South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church
  • April 20, 2023 - Virtual public meeting (watch recording on YouTube)
