The Asset Management Unit of General Services is responsible for the maintenance, upkeep, operations and management of city- and county-owned property, including facilities, vehicles, equipment, trees, cemeteries and landscaping. The unit also provides landscape design services for Capital Investment Plan projects and facility design services. The unit, led by the deputy director, has three divisions:
The Facilities Operations division provides 24/7 maintenance and caretaking services for approximately 4.4 million square feet and 186+ buildings of city-owned facilities that support operational, administrative, cultural and public activities, such as the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, police and fire stations, the Mint Museum and the Bojangles/Ovens entertainment complex.
The Fleet Management division maintains the city and county's stock of equipment and commercial motor vehicles, including cars, vans, trucks and specialty vehicles such as garbage and fire trucks.
The Landscape Management division is responsible for planning, designing, operating and maintaining city-owned greenspaces and vegetation, including Charlotte's street trees and public cemeteries.
