you have to be there you have to get
0:18
this done now no matter what this

0:38
my name is rodney lee
0:40
my title is heavy duty technician
0:44
for the city of charlotte here
0:46
maintaining fire trucks for the city of
0:48
charlotte
0:49
[Music]
0:55
we have to go out and do panic stops to
0:57
make sure nothing's
1:00
uh when you hit the brakes like that the
1:02
steering wheel ain't trying to jerk out
1:03
of your hand or it's actually coming to
1:05
a smooth stop in that panic stop right
1:07
now
1:15
[Music]
1:16
a typical day of work is
1:19
trucks constantly breaking the city is
1:21
growing and it's growing fast these fire
1:24
trucks are breaking they're breaking
1:25
fast because they have the response
1:27
and there's a lot of
1:29
behind the scenes a lot of people don't
1:31
know about it it takes a lot to run one
1:33
of these five
1:41
there's probably 120 fire trucks
1:44
equipment wise there's probably up to uh
1:47
seven 800 pieces of equipment that we
1:48
have to maintain yearly and each truck
1:50
has to come in at least twice a year
1:53
my family loves what i do
1:55
my grandkids my wife they all think it's
1:58
special and what i do and it is special
2:00
i've always seen fire truck as every
2:02
little kid does a lot of kids they love
2:04
fire trucks they love them and
2:06
it makes me excited that sometimes we
2:08
leave out here we have to test drive
2:10
them and my youngest girl i used to do
2:12
that to her and uh
2:14
and she sit in the back of truck and we
2:16
rolled around the parking lot and she
2:17
was just laughing like to no end
2:19
so now she's actually a charlotte
2:21
firefighter causing me
2:23
she just became a charlotte firefighter
2:25
i look at each one of the firefighters
2:28
as my kid
2:29
if one of those get hurt and it's due to
2:31
something i've done i feel just as
2:33
responsible as anyone else every life is
2:36
very important to me that gets in that
2:38
truck
2:38
and that's the way all the guys that i
2:40
work with feel
2:42
again it takes a special person to be a
2:44
firefighter technician
2:46
you can ask any of them anything you
2:47
want to they're going to give you the
2:48
same answer
2:50
we're we're we're sort of weird but we
2:52
love our job and we do our job well the
2:54
firemen's that drive these trucks
2:56
are just as important but
2:59
it takes us for them to be them who they
3:01
are so
3:02
that's the bottom line
