Mallard Creek - University Research Park

In 2018 the City of Charlotte partnered with the Catawba Lands Conservancy to acquire and protect  an approximately 27-acre property in University Research Park under a conservation easement.

Historically the property was mostly farmed, except for the steepest slopes and the rocky ridge top. The most extensive natural community type on the property is dry basic oak-hickory forest, made up of white oak, post oak, scarlet oak, southern red oak and mockernut hickory. In addition, the site protects seven acres of wetlands identified in the National Wetlands Inventory.

The property is adjacent to Mallard Creek Greenway, but it does not contain a trail network and is not currently open to the public.
