​Business Matching Grant Program

Companies located in Business Redevelopment Corridors, can apply for a variety of City programs that provide innovative tools for small businesses, property owners,  and developers.  Business and commercial property owners ma​y apply for matching grants to assist with the cost of improving their properties.

To apply for the Façade and Security Improvement Grants, fill out the Business Matching Grant Program Application and contact Erin Gillespie for assistance. Interior Upfit Improvement Grant

Economic Development Department has launched the Interior Upfit Improvement Grant as the newest component of its Business Matching Grant Program (BMPG).

The grant provides up to 50% reimbursement to commercial or industrial businesses or property owners for eligible interior renovation costs. A 60% reimbursement may be available on a case-by-case basis for utilization of a certified Minority, Women or Small Business Enterprise (MWSBE) firms. The maximum grant award is $30,000. Qualifying businesses must be in the Business Corridor Revitalization Geography, which can be determined by searching for the business’s address on the city’s interactive map.

Application deadlines for the new grant occur quarterly on Feb. 15, May 15, Aug. 15 and Nov. 15. If a deadline falls on a Saturday or Sunday, applications will be due the following Monday by close of business.

The matching grant program also includes façade and security improvement grants. With the addition of the interior upfit grant to the suite of BMPG grants, the city is working to help provide qualifying businesses with overall revitalization. Learn more about the Interior Upfit Improvement Grant.

​Maximum grant awards are based upon building square footage:

  • Up to 3,000 sq./ft. $20,000

  • 3,000-6,000 sq./ft. $30,000

  • Over 6,000 sq./ft. $40,000

  • Shopping centers up to 30,000 sq./ft. with 3 tenants $90,000

  • Shopping centers> 30,000 sq./ft. with 4 tenants $130,000

The Façade Improvement program removes blight by assisting businesses and commercial property owners with improving building appearance. This program helps with exterior architectural renovations and targeted site improvements.​

​In partnership with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), this grant reduces the opportunity for crime and builds relationships between corridor businesses and community police officers.  This program helps with alarm systems, security lighting, cameras, fencing and decorative ironwork.
