The committee reviews and recommends policies to make neighborhoods safe, healthy and inclusive; including policing, fire protection, and the environment.
Residents can provide feedback to the Safe Communities Committee by email at email@example.com.
In response to public requests and a national discussion on policing differently, the Safe Communities Committee developed a plan to review policies of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).
It is important to have the community provide perspective on various aspects of policing and how law enforcement interacts with the community. To ensure that the committee hears from the community, a group of diverse residents have been identified to provide insight.
This group will review materials and agenda items before each Safe Communities Committee meeting and provide feedback that will serve as insight for the committee as they are reviewing policy and working with CMPD to implement change.
Assembled as a focus group, members will be diverse in opinion and experience and are expected to provide reactions and feedback to potential policy changes, programs, budgets, practices and plans. They meet every other week beginning July 16 at 3:00 p.m. Meetings will not be livestreamed, but the public will have the ability to dial-in via WebEx to hear the discussion.
