Council Member Marjorie Molina

Personal: A native North Carolinian and 20-year Charlottean, Marjorie Molina is a dedicated leader, mother and lifelong learner who is deeply committed to helping Charlotte grow in ways that work for everyone.

As a single mother of two teenagers, Marjorie understands the real-world balance of family, career and public service. Her experiences have shaped her pragmatic, solutions-driven approach to policymaking, ensuring that Charlotte remains a city where people can build their futures, businesses can thrive and communities feel heard and supported.

Outside of her work, Marjorie enjoys spending time with her children, recharging in nature and cheering on the city's local sports team.

Education: Marjorie Molina is a Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education alumna. There, she earned a certificate in Senior Executives Leadership in State & Local Government, refining her ability to navigate complex policy challenges and drive strategic governance.

She also holds a Master of Science in Management from UNC Charlotte's Belk College of Business, equipping her with expertise in organizational strategy, economic development and leadership.

Her undergraduate studies at Arizona State University included a bachelor's degree in liberal studies and a certificate in Business Analysis. Additionally, she has pursued certifications in project management and data analytics, including economic research, further enhancing her ability to develop data-driven policies that drive meaningful change for Charlotte residents.

Professional Experience: Marjorie brings extensive experience in financial services and business development, having successfully managed high-level stakeholder relationships and strategic growth initiatives. She is currently a Senior Business Development Executive at a local architectural, engineering and interior design company where she focuses on economic development and business expansion.

Prior to her corporate career, she was an entrepreneur and small business owner, founding and operating a successful auto-repair business in Charlotte for over a decade. This experience gave her firsthand insight into the challenges and opportunities facing small businesses, shaping her strong advocacy for business-friendly policies and workforce development initiatives.

Civic Engagement: Marjorie is a recognized leader in municipal policy and community development, actively serving on several influential boards and advisory committees, including:

  • Board of Directors, North Carolina League of Municipalities
  • Board of Directors, Charlotte Area Fund
  • Community and Economic Development Federal Advocacy Committee, National League of Cities
  • Advisory Board Member, United States Global Leadership Coalition

She has also held leadership roles with the Mecklenburg County Women's Advisory Board, City of Charlotte Equitable Development Commission and the Diversity, Equity and Global Association Board of the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.

Key Achievements: Since being elected, Marjorie has worked collaboratively to secure key investments and advance critical initiatives that strengthen District 5, East Charlotte and the city as a whole, including:

  • Eastland Yards Redevelopment - Advocating for strategic investments to revitalize one of Charlotte's largest redevelopment projects.
  • Corridors of Opportunity - Securing funding for infrastructure and small business support along Albermarle Road and Central Avenue.
  • Workforce Development and Small Business Growth - Expanding access to programs that create pathways for entrepreneurs and economic mobility.
  • Transportation and Infrastructure Planning - Supporting data-driven growth strategies that improve connectivity and accessibility for all Charlotteans.
