Innovation and Technology
The City of Charlotte's Innovation & Technology department (I&T) provides executive-level leadership for the City's Technology Governance Policy, delivers technology services to City departments and partnership agencies, and coordinates information technology initiatives across the organization to support, enhance and advance citizen service delivery.
Smart Charlotte
Smart Charlotte is the city’s program delivering digital equity and civic innovation efforts. It was created in response to the community’s need for both digital inclusion and the development of more resident-centered tech and data solutions. The program started in 2020 with a focus on internet access for residents impacted by the digital divide. In late 2021, it expanded to developing resident-centered digital, tech and data solutions.

We are a Digital Cities Survey winner in the 500,000 or more population category
multiple years in a row, ranking No. 4 in 2021 and No. 6 in 2020. The Center for Digital Government sponsors this award to recognize public sector cities utilizing technology to tackle social challenges, enhance services, strengthen cybersecurity and more.
