Lisa Williams, Budget & Special Projects Manager for Charlotte Fire, has been named the 2024 Charlotte Fire Civilian of the Year. Her expertise and dedication have played a vital role in managing the department's budget, ensuring funds are used efficiently, and securing additional resources through grants and donations.

In the past year, Williams applied for the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) for Fiscal Year 2023, resulting in an award of $1,234,090 for the department. These funds were used to outfit firefighters with essential turnout gear, including the purchase of new equipment and repairs to existing gear—relieving significant financial pressure on the department’s annual budget.

"While our frontline firefighters often receive the recognition they deserve, it's important to acknowledge the exceptional work of our support staff," said Charlotte Fire Chief Reginald Johnson. "Lisa's hard work behind the scenes has a direct impact on our ability to serve the community. Her efforts in securing over $1.2 million in grant funding are a testament to her commitment to ensuring we have the tools we need to protect Charlotte."

Williams' contributions go beyond budget management. She has consistently worked to secure critical funding, allowing the department to maintain operational readiness while minimizing financial strain. Though her work is largely "behind the scenes," her impact on the department’s mission and success is invaluable.

For her ongoing dedication and significant contributions to the department's financial health, Williams was honored with the Civilian of the Year award, a recognition she wholeheartedly deserves.
