Firefighter Injured in Residential Structure Fire on Sharon Amity Road

At 5:55 a.m. today, Charlotte Fire began receiving multiple calls reporting a possible fire in the 3900 block of Sharon Amity Road. Engine 65 was the first unit to arrive on the scene at 5:58 a.m. and encountered visible fire coming from a vacant residential structure located in an active construction site slated for demolition.

While conducting interior firefighting operations, a firefighter sustained an ankle injury at approximately 6:07 a.m. The firefighter self-extricated from the building and was assessed on the scene by emergency personnel before being transported to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center for further evaluation. The firefighter was treated and released later this afternoon and is expected to make a full recovery. No other injuries were reported during the incident.
Fire investigators have determined the fire to be an incendiary fire, the result of intentional action. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call CrimeStoppers at 704-334-1600.
