Welcoming Week is an annual observance that brings new Americans and long-term residents together to build strong, inclusive communities. From Sept. 13-22, Charlotte will join cities across the country in celebrating new Americans' contributions and fostering connections among all residents.

The kickoff will take place on Friday, Sept. 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration is not required but is encouraged. This event is free and open to everyone. To register, please visit the 2024 Welcoming Week Registration page

"We are excited to host a Welcoming Week launch event and partner with local organizations for conversations and events led by the community and supported by the city," said Saira Estrada, language access and immigrant integration coordinator. "Our city is committed to creating a welcoming environment for everyone, and this event is an excellent opportunity to celebrate the diversity that makes our city strong."

The event will be hosted at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, symbolizing the city's commitment to building trust and positive relationships between new Americans and the local government. The day will be filled with cultural performances, educational workshops, city resources, food and family-friendly activities, all aimed at promoting understanding and unity among neighbors.

Charlotte was the first city in the Southeast to earn the formal Certified Welcoming designation from the Welcoming America organization, underscoring the Queen City’s dedication to immigrant inclusion.
