CHARLOTTE, N.C. (July 5, 2023) – The Charlotte Business Journal has announced that the City of Charlotte is ranked number one in their 2023 Healthiest Employers of Greater Charlotte Awards Program in the larger employer category. This is the third consecutive year that the city has received the first-place recognition. The purpose of the awards program is to highlight local companies that are making strides in employee wellness.
The city, which has more than 8,000 employees, was nominated earlier this year and participated in a comprehensive online assessment to evaluate performance across six key areas:
- Culture and leadership commitment.
- Foundational components.
- Strategic planning.
- Communications and marketing.
- Programming and interventions.
- Reporting and analytics.
Assessment responses were reviewed by Healthiest Employers LLC and Springbuk and the city received a score of 90.9, topping the list in its category.
“Our city’s commitment to wellness programming is a reflection of the commitment to our employees and our community,” said Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles. “By investing in their well-being, we are creating a healthier, happier and more productive workforce. We are proud of the progress we have made through our Wellness Works program and will continue to strive toward expanding our comprehensive support and resources for our employees.”
A key component of the city’s well-being program that helped secure the top spot was its Get Your Ducks in a Row program which was created to assist employees with life planning. The program has been successful in increasing employee’s knowledge and awareness of the value in identifying beneficiaries, updating life insurance, and sharing an end-of-life plan with family members.
Other organizations that stood out in the category for employers that have more than 5,000 employees include Atrium Health, Compass Group USA Inc., U-Haul International and Lincoln Financial Group. The full list of the rankings is available on the Charlotte Business Journal’s webpage.
