City of Charlotte to Host Faith and Housing Summit

Building More Than Homes: Faith in Action for Affordable Living

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 16, 2024) – On May 30, the City of Charlotte will host the Faith and Housing Summit. This event will convene faith leaders, city officials, community services agencies and affordable housing practitioners to explore opportunities for partnerships to advance affordable housing options for Charlotte residents.

The summit will take place Thursday, May 30 from 8:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. at the Charlotte Convention Center. During this event, attendees will explore different pathways forward for supporting affordable housing and hear from experts on how to turn their ideas into a reality. Topics will include:

Utilizing faith-owned land for affordable housing development.
Financial strategies for faith communities to support housing initiatives.
Transforming underutilized spaces into vibrant community assets.

“Our city's strength lies in its diversity and inclusivity, and that starts with ensuring everyone has a place to call home,” said Mayor Vi Lyles. “I'm calling on our community to join us at the Faith and Housing Summit. Your voices are crucial in shaping the solutions we need to tackle this pressing issue together and build a future where every resident has access to safe, affordable housing."

Attendees will also learn from real-life examples of how other faith communities have partnered with housing providers/developers and local government to build and support affordable housing and community development.
