On-demand rides for the Charlotte region
Microtransit is a convenient, on-demand transit option, similar to Lyft or Uber, that uses smaller vehicles or even small buses to provide service within designated zones.
It is also one of the key initiatives outlined in the Envision My Ride: Bus Priority Study, adopted by the Metropolitan Transit Commission (MTC) in May 2022. It is part of the larger goal to build a more reliable, connected and accessible mobility network for the greater Charlotte area.
Examples of microtransit in other cities include RideMicro in Wilmington, NC.
You may experience convenient, on-demand service from your neighborhood to major destinations, like existing transit routes, mobility hubs or even on-demand service that takes you directly to your destination.
Mobility hubs are enhanced transit stops that improve connections between bus and other modes of travel, like rail, bike or microtransit.
CATS is currently working through a procurement process to launch microtransit in late 2024 / early 2025 that will serve key areas of the towns of Cornelius, Davidson and Huntersville.
