Board and Committee

CATS Gold line passing through uptown Charlotte

There are two groups that support and provide guidance to CATS.  The Metropolitan Transit Commission (MTC) is the policy board for the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) and has responsibility for reviewing and recommending all long-range public transportation plans. The MTC is provided public input and guidance by The Public Transit Advisory Committee (PTAC), which was established by the MTC effective January 1, 2025, through an interlocal agreement between the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County and the six towns. PTAC replaces the Citizens Transit Advisory Group (CTAG) and the Transit Services Advisory Committee (TSAC). Those two public bodies helped shape the direction of public transit in the region and will continue to do so as the PTAC.
