On Sunday, September 2, 2018 at 7:41a.m., officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Westover Division responded to a traffic crash involving three vehicles located on West Woodlawn Road at the intersection of South Tryon Street.  Upon their arrival, the officers located a 2006 Ford Mustang with heavy front end damage in the roadway as well as a 1998 Ford Econoline van and a 2003 Lincoln Aviator that were also involved in the collision and had both come to rest on their sides just off the roadway.  MEDIC and the Charlotte Fire Department also responded to the crash.  The driver and front seat passenger of the Lincoln were both pronounced deceased on scene by MEDIC.  The driver and passenger of the Ford Econoline van and the driver of the Ford Mustang were all transported to Carolinas Medical Center with critical and serious injuries.  Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, Crime Scene Investigators, and officers from the Motorcycle Unit and DWI Task Force were called to the scene to conduct the investigation.

The initial investigation has revealed the Ford Econoline van was traveling west on West Woodlawn Road at a high rate of speed and failed to stop for the steady red traffic signal for its direction of travel.  The Ford Mustang was traveling north on South Tryon Street and had a green light for its direction of travel.  The Ford Mustang entered the intersection at the same time as the Ford Econoline and the two collided.  The Ford Econoline van then veered to the right striking the Lincoln Aviator which was traveling south on South Tryon Street.  The Ford Econoline and Lincoln Aviator rolled onto their sides and came to rest in the grass on the northwest corner of the intersection.  The driver and front seat passenger of the Lincoln Aviator were both wearing their seatbelts and were pronounced deceased at the scene by Medic.  The driver and passenger of the Ford Econoline van were both transported to Carolinas Medical Center with critical injuries.  The driver was restrained by the provided seatbelt, but the passenger was unrestrained.  The driver of the Ford Mustang was wearing his seatbelt and was transported to CMC with serious injuries.

Excessive speed and failure to stop for a steady red light are contributing factors in this crash for the driver of the Ford Econoline van.  Detectives obtained arrest warrants charging the driver of the van (Amber Ann Marie Frazier) with two counts of Involuntary Manslaughter, Reckless Driving, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  The warrants will be served and Mrs. Frazier will be taken into custody upon her release from CMC.

It has not been determined yet if drug and/or alcohol use were contributing factors in this crash.

This is an ongoing and active investigation.  Any person who witnessed the crash or has information about the case is asked to call Detective Oberer at 704- 432-2169 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
