***UPDATE*** - Eastway Division homicide on 3/4/2018

Case Update: Wednesday, March 21, 2018,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged Tyrelle Dai'shon Gaston, DOB: 07/9/2000, for his involvement in this case. 

During the investigation, detectives identified Gaston as being present during the homicide.  On Tuesday, March 20, 2018, Gaston voluntarily came to police headquarters where he was interviewed by Homicide Detectives. 

At the conclusion of the interview, Gaston was charged with Discharging a Weapon into a Moving Vehicle and transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.

This is an ongoing, active investigation.  As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.

Case Update: Sunday, March 04, 2018,

The victim in this case has been identified as Daquan Shannon, DOB: 10/20/2000.

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation at 5209 Central Avenue in the Eastway Division.  The call for service came in at 12:15 a.m. on Sunday, March 04, 2018. 

Eastway Division Officers responded to a call for service at the QT Station located at 5209 Central Avenue which stated that an individual had been shot.  Upon arrival, officers located the male victim, who had an apparent gunshot wound.  The male was transported by MEDIC to Carolinas Medical Center – Main where he was pronounced deceased.  His identity will be released pending family notification. 

Detectives with the Homicide Unit have responded to the scene to conduct the investigation and are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any witnesses to this incident. 

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.
