Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Independence and Hickory Grove Divisions along with Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Police, have arrested and charged Taha Jamal Alasfar, DOB: 12/25/1991, for his involvement in this case.
- On February 04, 2016, Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Police responded to Albemarle Road Elementary School, located at 7800 Riding Trail Road, in reference to a theft of numerous IPad's from a classroom(2016-0204-0801-02)
- On February 08, 2016, Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Police responded to the Piney Grove Elementary School, located at 8801 Eaglewind Drive, regarding the reported theft of various electronic items. , (2016-0208-0938-03)
- On February 09, 2016, Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Police responded back to Piney Grove Elementary School regarding the theft of five Ipad's (2016-0209-0843-02). In these three cases, detectives charged two juveniles with Felony Larceny.
- On February 13, 2016, Hickory Grove division patrol officers responded to an alarm at the Albemarle Road Elementary School. When they arrived they determined there was a break-in and located two subjects walking away from the school. As a result of information and evidence gathered on scene, officers charged Daquan Erwin, DOB: 10/27/1999 and a 15 year old male juvenile with Felony Breaking and Entering, Conspiracy to Commit Felony Breaking and Entering and Larceny after Breaking and Entering. (2016-0213-1645-01).
Detectives from the Independence and Hickory Grove Divisions along with Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Police collectively worked together on these cases and launched an investigation which led to them obtaining and executing a search warrant on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at Player's Wireless, located at 5669 Farm Pond Lane (2016-0217-0943-02). During the search, detectives located an IPad that was taken from Piney Grove Elementary along with a stolen cell phone taken in a larceny from auto that occurred last year in the 3600 block of Hubbard Road (2016-0217-1214-01).
In addition, several counterfeit phone accessories, prescription contact lenses and two sweepstakes machines were seized. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Departments ABC Unit issued a citation for the machines and the North Carolina Secretary of State's Counterfeit Task Force responded to the scene as well. An employee of Player's Wireless, identified as Taha Alasfar, was arrested and transported to the Independence Division where he was interviewed by detectives. Upon completion of the interview, Alasfar was charged with Felony Possession of Stolen Property, Misdemeanor Possession of Stolen Property, Forgery Counterfeiting Merchandise and Drug Prescription Fraud. Alasfar was then transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
