Case Update: Thursday, May 10, 2018,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged Michael Duane Brown, DOB: 02/11/1987, with the murder of Whitney Jo King, DOB: 12/29/1990.

This is an active and ongoing investigation. As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.

Detectives with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are investigating a homicide that has occurred in the 10700 block of Point South Drive.

On Thursday, May 10, 2018 at approximately 1:40 a.m., an adult male suspect drove himself to the CMPD's Steele Creek Division office and indicated to one of our officers that he had just killed his girlfriend in an apartment on Point South Drive. 

Officers responded to that location and located the adult female deceased from apparent gunshot wounds inside of an apartment.  Also in the apartment was an infant who was not harmed during the incident.

Detectives with the Homicide Unit are currently interviewing the suspect as well as canvassing the area to determine whether there are any witnesses to this incident. 

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence. 

Representatives of the Victim Services and Operations Command responded to the scene.  Department of Social Services employees as well as CDCP Counselors arrived to take temporary custody of the child.

This is an ongoing, active investigation.  As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs. The names of the suspect and victim are being withheld until the victim's family is notified of her death.
