On March 27, 2018, at 6:04 a.m., Steele Creek Division patrol officers responded to a pedestrian crash at the intersection of Youngblood Road and Buckthorne Ridge Lane.  Upon arrival, officers located a 2017 Nissan Murano that had struck a pedestrian in the roadway.  MEDIC arrived and pronounced the pedestrian deceased as a result of injuries sustained from the crash.

The CMPD Major Crash Investigation Unit was notified and responded to the scene to conduct an investigation.  The preliminary investigation determined Kevin Michael Signer was operating his 2017 Nissan Murano traveling east on Youngblood Road toward Capps Road.  The pedestrian was crossing Youngblood Road toward Buckthorne Ridge Lane and got struck in the roadway.  The pedestrian was a student with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School system and was crossing Youngblood Road to board the bus.  The roadway does not have any overhead street lights and the pedestrian was not wearing any clothing that was reflective.  This section of the roadway had no crosswalks or pedestrians signals.

Speed does not appear to be a contributing factor in this crash.  Detectives are investigating the bus pickup location and working with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Police Department.  The crash remains under investigation.  Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Detective Reibold at 704-432-2169 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
