***UPDATE*** North Tryon Division - Major Crash Detectives investigating a fatality on North Tryon

Case Update: Monday May 7, 2018,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Investigation Unit have issued citations to the owner of the bus.  Victor Rabb, the owner of the bus, was issued citations after it was determined that the vehicle was uninsured and was displaying a fictitious license plate on the bus during the time the traffic fatality occurred on May 01, 2018.

Mr. Rabb has voluntarily surrendered the bus to the NC State Highway Patrol's Motor Carrier Division to allow state investigators the opportunity to inspect the vehicle for any equipment violations.

Case Update: Friday, May 4, 2018,

Information and evidence gathered during the course of this investigation indicates that the victim was potentially struck by two vehicles after falling from the bus. Investigators have interviewed the driver of one of those vehicles. They are actively working to identify the driver of the second vehicle, who may have struck the victim. Investigators do not have a description of the second vehicle and encourage any witnesses to come forward.

Case Update: Thursday, May 3, 2018,

Additional information obtained during the investigation indicates that the victim and other occupants on the bus were traveling from an off-campus house on Mallard Creek Church Road to uptown Charlotte.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Investigation Unit continues to investigate the circumstances involving the case.  Witnesses are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or Detective Steve Williams at 704-432-2169.

Wednesday, May 02, 2018,

On May 01, 2018 at 10:25 p.m., North Tryon Division officers were dispatched to the 4500 block of N. Tryon Street in reference to a vehicle crash with injuries. Upon officers arrival they located an unresponsive white female lying in the roadway. MEDIC responded and pronounced the female deceased on the scene. The Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force and Crime Scene Investigation were called to the scene to investigate the crash. It was determined that the female was riding in a Charlotte Party Charter bus that left the campus of UNCC and was on the way to a bar in uptown. The bus was traveling in the left lane on the 4500 block of N. Tryon Street when the female fell out of an emergency window on the right side of the bus. The female landed in the center lane. It is believed that the female was then struck by two other vehicles.

The bus stopped and remained on the scene.  The driver and passengers were interviewed.

Speed is not a factor in this crash.

Alcohol or drug use is unknown at this time.
