North Tryon Division - Homicide in the 6700 block of North Tryon Street

Case Update:  Wednesday, October 10, 2018,

The victim in this case has been identified as Demetrius Thomas, DOB: 7/25/1991.  His family has been notified of his death.

This is an ongoing, active investigation.  As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.

Tuesday, October 09, 2018,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 6700 block of N. Tryon Street in the North Tryon Division.  The call for service came in at 9:02 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9, 2018. 

North Tryon Division patrol officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service.  Upon arrival, officers located a male with an apparent gunshot wound in front of the businesses located in this shopping center.  Medic pronounced the victim deceased on scene.  His name will be released once his family has been notified.

Homicide Detectives are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any additional witnesses to this incident. 

The initial investigation has revealed that the victim was standing outside one of the businesses in the shopping center when an unknown male suspect approached and shot him.  The suspect then fled the scene.

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Victim Services, and Operations Command responded to the scene.
