***UPDATE*** North Tryon Division - Homicide in the 500 block of Camrose Drive

Case Update: Wednesday, August 22, 2018,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have charged Michael Jerome DeBerry Jr., DOB: 08/26/1996, with the murder of Philip Patrick Young Jr. 

As a result of information and evidence gathered during the investigation, detectives identified DeBerry as the suspect in this case.  Homicide Detectives obtained warrants against DeBerry for 1st Degree Murder and requested the assistance of the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team in locating him. 

Earlier this morning the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team located and arrested DeBerry on Bullard Street in the Freedom Division without incident and transported him to police headquarters where he was interviewed.  At the conclusion of the interview he was transported to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.

Case Update:  Tuesday, July 10, 2018,

The victim has been identified as Philip Patrick Young Jr., DOB: 12/23/1988.  His family has been notified of his death.  This is an ongoing, active investigation.  As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.

Tuesday, July 10, 2018,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 500 block of Camrose Drive in the North Tryon Division.  The call for service came in at 1:19 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2018. 

North Tryon Division Officers responded to an assist Medic call for service.  Upon their arrival, officers located a male lying in the doorway unresponsive.  Medic arrived and pronounced the victim deceased.  The victim's identity will be released pending family notification. 

Detectives with the Homicide Unit responded to the scene and are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any witnesses to this incident. 

Crime Scene Search has responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence. 

Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Victim Services, and Operations Command responded to the scene.
