On May 30, 2018, at 12:09 p.m., North division officers responded to a vehicle crash with injuries in the 1700 block of Oakdale Road. Upon officers arrival, they located a motorcycle and rider laying in the front yard of 1701 Oakdale Road, the driver was unresponsive. Medic responded and pronounced the rider deceased at 12:29 p.m.
The Major Crash Investigation Unit, Motorcycle Unit and Crime Scene Investigations responded to conduct the investigation. The investigation revealed the motorcycle was traveling south on Oakdale Road at a high rate of speed when it came up on a slower traveling passenger car. The motorcycle passed the passenger car on the left and lost control of the motorcycle as he reentered southbound lane the lane. The motorcycle ran off the road to the right and traveled through several yards before it struck two trees. The rider was ejected off the motorcycle.
The driver did not have a Motorcycle endorsement on his North Carolina Operators License. The driver was wearing a helmet.
Speed is a factor in this case. This section of Oakdale Road is marked for no passing.
The motorcycle was reported stolen by the owner to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department on May 30, 2018 at 9:35 am. It is unknown if the driver stole the motorcycle or received it from another person.
