On March 1, 2016, at approximately 9:13 a.m. Freedom Division Patrol Officers responded to 10624 Windy Grove Road in reference to a vehicle wreck. Upon arrival they located four victims in a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse. Three of the occupants were transported by Medic to Carolinas Medical Center with serious injuries. One of the occupants, identified as Heaven Seay, was pronounced deceased on scene.

The Major Crash Investigations Unit responded to the scene and conducted the investigation. Information and evidence gathered on scene led them in determining that the Mitsubishi Eclipse was being driven at a high rate of speed on Windy Grove Road. The driver lost control of the vehicle, crossed into the oncoming traffic lane, then drove off the left side of the road and struck a tree. Speed is a contributing factor for this crash.

All passengers inside the vehicle were students at West Mecklenburg High School. At this time it is unknown if the driver is a student of a Charlotte Mecklenburg School.

Any person who witnessed the crash or has information about the case is asked to call Detective Sammis (704) 336-8862 or Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600.
