***UPDATE*** Independence Division - Homicide on Elm Forest Drive

Case Update: Thursday, May 17, 2018,

On Thursday, May 17, 2018 members of The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team arrested Sergio Axel Coello-Perez, DOB: 05/30/2001, in the 3200 block of Old House Court for outstanding warrants. Officers transported Coello-Perez to police headquarters where he was interviewed by Homicide Detectives.

Homicide Detectives transported Jonathan Castillo, DOB: 03/09/2000, from the Mecklenburg County Jail to police headquarters, where he was then interviewed by Homicide Detectives.

At the conclusion of the interviews, both Coello-Perez and Castillo were charged with Murder in connection to this case. They were also charged with Larceny of a Motor Vehicle.

This is an ongoing, active investigation.  As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.

Case Update: Sunday, May 13, 2018,

The victim in this case has been identified as Nicholas Antoine Boger, DOB: 8/30/1981. 

This is an ongoing, active investigation.  As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.

Sunday, May 13, 2018,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 6800 block of Elm Forest Drive in the Independence Division.  The call for service came in at 10:21 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2018. 

Independence Division Officers responded to multiple calls for service regarding a vehicle in the middle of the road on Elm Forest Drive.  One 911 caller advised that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle while another advised that a subject was underneath the car and that shots had been fired.  Upon their arrival, officers located an adult male under the vehicle who was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The deceased victim's identity will be released pending family notification. 

Detectives with the Homicide Unit responded to the scene and are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any witnesses to this incident.   There is evidence on the scene to indicate that shots may have been fired.

Crime Scene Search has responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence. 

Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, The Charlotte Fire Department, Victim Services,  and Operations Command responded to the scene.
