On May 18th – 19th, 2016, five Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officers will swim the 34 mile length of Lake Norman to raise college funding for the children of two of CMPD’s fallen brothers, Officer Sean Clark and Officer Fred Thornton.

On April 1, 2007, CMPD Officer Sean Clark was killed in the line of duty, leaving behind his son and wife, who was 7 months pregnant with their second son at that time.

On February 25, 2011, CMPD SWAT Officer Fred Thornton was killed in the line of duty, leaving behind his wife, 2 daughters and 2 sons.

Combined, Officer Clark and Officer Thornton left behind 6 children; the youngest 3 have yet to go to college.

The goal of the Honor Swim is to raise money and establish college funds for Officer Thornton and Officer Clark’s 3 youngest children to attend college in the future. The average cost of a 4 year college is roughly around $100,000, including tuition, books, food, housing and fees; therefore, our monetary goal is to raise $300,000.

The five officers will begin this swim the afternoon of May 18th and swim throughout the night. They plan on finishing the swim on the afternoon of May 19th. If you would like to make a contribution to help these families, please click here www.gofundme.com/honorswim.
