Case Update: Saturday, September 01, 2018,

The victim in this case was pronounced deceased earlier this afternoon as a result of his injuries. This is an ongoing, active investigation.  As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.

Case Update: Saturday, September 01, 2018,

The victim in this case has been identified as Preston Nicholson,  DOB 07/23/1974. On Saturday September 1, 2018, Mr. Nicholson remains alive but is unable to breathe on his own.  This is an ongoing, active investigation.  As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.

Saturday, September 01, 2018,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a shooting investigation in the 4600 block of Brookshire Boulevard in the Freedom Division.  The call for service came in at 2:09 a.m. on Saturday, September 01, 2018. 

Freedom Division patrol officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service.  Upon arrival, officers located a male with an apparent gunshot wound inside a vehicle that had run off the side of the road in the 4600 block of Brookshire Boulevard. Medic transported the victim, an adult male, to the hospital where he is being treated for a life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim's name will be released once his family has been notified about this incident.

The initial investigation has revealed that the victim was traveling inbound on Brookshire Boulevard driving a Volvo passenger car.  No one else was in the car with him.   As the victim passed through the intersection of Lawton Road, the suspect shot him.  The unknown suspect was also traveling in a vehicle, inbound on Brookshire Boulevard, when the shooting occurred.    

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.   Homicide Detectives are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any additional witnesses to this incident.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team and Operations Command responded to the scene.
