***UPDATE*** Central Division - Homicide in 900 block of North Tryon Street

Case Update: Friday, June 29, 2018,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged Santario Miller, DOB: 08/18/1995, with the murder of Shalamar Venable.

Earlier today, detectives with the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team developed information that Miller was inside a residence in Gastonia, NC.  VCAT detectives requested assistance from the Gastonia Police Department in locating Miller.  After a standoff, Miller eventually surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident and transported to police headquarters where he is currently being interviewed. 

At the conclusion of the interview, Miller will be charged with Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.

Case Update: Friday, May 25, 2018,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are requesting the public's assistance in locating Santario Miller, DOB: 08/18/1995, who is wanted for the murder of Shalamar Venable.

During the investigation, detectives identified Miller as a suspect in this case and obtained warrants for Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Miller should be considered Armed and Dangerous.

Anyone with information regarding Miller's whereabouts should immediately contact VCAT at 704-336-VCAT, or call 911.  As additional information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.

T​he victim in this case has been identified as Shalamar Venable. DOB: 1/23/1979.

Monday, May 21, 2018,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 900 block of North Tryon Street in the Central Division.  The call for service came in at 3:59 a.m., on Monday, May 21, 2018. 

Central Division patrol officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service on North Tryon Street.  Upon arrival they located a female victim with apparent gunshot wounds.  The female victim was transported to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.  She was pronounced deceased a short time later at the hospital by medical staff.  The female victim's identity will be released pending family notification. 

At this time, detectives believe the victim and suspect are known to each other.

Homicide Detectives are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any witnesses to this incident. 

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Victim Services, K9 Unit and Operations Command responded to the scene.
