CHARLOTTE, N.C. (June 30, 2016) - City Manager Ron Carlee has declared uptown Charlotte's SkyShow 2016 on July 4 an Extraordinary Event. An Extraordinary Event is defined as a large scale event or an event of national or international significance that might attract a significant number of people to a certain geographic area of the city.

The city manager, in collaboration with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, (CMPD) has determined this event meets the criteria as defined in Charlotte City Code Sec. 15-310. The Extraordinary Event designation allows the city to modify its permitting process for activities such as parades and specifies certain items that are prohibited from being brought into certain boundaries of the event.

The city also kicked off its social media campaign, #704th, to highlight July 4 (7/04) celebrations in Charlotte (704). The campaign encourages community members to connect via social media to share their Independence Day experience in Charlotte. Those who participate can share July 4 photos on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook and tagging each post with the #704th hashtag.
