International Community Relations

Finding the World in Charlotte

The Office of International Relations is committed to being a resource to foster international relationships. We work to connect Charlotte's various international communities and Charlotte to the world.

Want to get more involved with a new culture? Feeling a little home sick and looking for a group to celebrate some of your favorite traditions with? Are you a newly arrived refugee who is looking for some guidance as you adjust to your new home? There are over 300 organizations in the Charlotte region with a focus on serving the international community or helping Charlotteans be better global citizens.

We coordinate with the Charlotte Chamber to produce a list of those organizations  (page 20) that connect our refugees, expatriates, and native born citizens to global experiences.

If you'd like your tax deductible non-profit, educational, charitable or governmental organization added to the list please contact the office in writing.  Once your organization is added to our official list, you may also request to have items posted on the International Events Bulletin.

The Office of International Relations also works with various City of Charlotte boards and commissions - including the Charlotte International Cabinet and its subcommittee, the Welcoming Charlotte Partnership. When international issues facing our community need to be studied in depth, the Mayor or City Council can call for the Cabinet to address the topic. Over the years, the Cabinet produced several reports which were presented to Council. A list of reports are found below.
