Construction is underway for the CityLYNX Gold Line Phase 2 streetcar project. Road closures and project updates will be shared with affected businesses and all NotifyMe subscribers. Listed are narratives and maps of all curret road closures. Scroll to bottom of page for an interactive road closure map. Road closure information is separated by neighborhood including Hawthorne Lane (Elizabeth), West End and Uptown.
There are no road closures associated with the Gold Line Phase 2 project at this time.
East Trade Street (Inbound between Brevard Street and College Street)
April 14 - May 1
Trade Street, between Brevard Street and College Street, will close to thru traffic on Friday, April 14 at 7 p.m. and will reopen on Monday, May 1 at 6 a.m.
Motorists should utilize Brevard Street, 4th Street and Poplar Street as the detour. Local access will be maintained. To accomodate this closure, there may be single-lane closures along College Street from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Trade Street Weekend Intersection Closure
Friday, April 28th at 7:00 PM and will re-open on Monday, May 1st at 6:00 AM
Trade Street, between Tryon and College Street, will close to thru traffic. Local access to businesses will be maintained.
West Trade Street (Outbound from Graham Street to Wilkes Place)
April 24 - May 1 postponed due to inclement weather until May 1 - May 5
West Trade Street will be closed in the outbound direction between Graham Street and Wilkes Place on Saturday, April 22nd at 7:00 a.m. and will re-open on Saturday, April 22nd at 7:00 p.m.
The same closure will continue on Monday, April 24th at 9 a.m. through May 1. On Saturday, April 29 at 7 a.m. the closure will continue in both (inbound and outbound) directions. The road will reopen in both directions on Monday May 1 at 6 a.m.
This closure is to accommodate necessary sewer work ahead of the CityLYNX Gold Line Phase 2 project. Local access to residences and businesses will be maintained. Please follow the Road Closed Local Traffic Only signage, as designated on the map, for this access.

April 29 - May 1
West Trade Street (Inbound between Church Street & College Street)
Trade Street, between Church Street and College Street (Eastbound/Inbound lanes), will close to thru traffic on Monday, May 1 at 9 a.m. through Monday, May 22 at 6 a.m.
To accommodate this closure notice there will also be single lane closures at the following locations between the hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Trade St. between College St. and Church St. (Westbound/ Outbound Lanes)
- Church St. between W. 5th St. and W. 4th St.
- Tryon St. between E. 4th St. and E. 5th St.
- College St. between E. 4th St. and E. 5th St.
This closure is necessary for private utility work ahead of the Gold Line project. Local access to residences and businesses will be maintained. For those located inside the Road Closed section please enter from Caldwell Street and exit toward Church Street.
Beatties Ford Road Northbound Lane Closure (West End)
March 21- May 21
The northbound curb lane of Beatties Ford Road, between French Street and Cemetery Street, will close on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 9 a.m. and will re-open on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 6 p.m. This lane closure will be the northbound curb lane only. A through-lane will remain open during this utility work. This closure is necessary for Storm Water utility work. This is not part of the Gold Line project, but is being shared as a courtesy to residents and business owners. Local access to residences and businesses will be maintained.
Frazier Avenue Road Closure (West End)
April 17 - May 8
Frazier Avenue, between Montgomery Street and West Trade Street, will be closed to thru traffic Monday, April 17th at 9:00 a.m. and will re-open on Monday, May 8th at 6:00 a.m. This closure will occur to accomodate private utility work in advance of the CityLYNX Gold Line Phase 2 project. Motorists should utilize West Trade Street and Montgomery Street as the detour.
Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled, and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets when planned. When this occurs, City traffic engineers work directly with other City staff and contractors to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling public.
Pedestrians walking near work zone areas should be alert, cautious and allow extra traveling time. It is advised they cross at signalized intersections, use pedestrian walk signals where available and abide by detour signage.
Motorists traveling through work zone areas should be alert and extra cautious. Drivers should get in the correct lane well in advance and constantly be on the lookout for vehicles merging into adjacent travel lanes as they approach a work zone. Drivers should double their following distance.
