Cedar Street/West Trade Street Road Closures (Uptown)
March 29 – April 5
These closures are necessary for private utility work.Local access to residences and businesses will be maintained. Please follow the Road Closed Local Traffic Only signage, as designated on the map, for this access.
Phase 1 – South Cedar St. between W. Trade St. and W. 4th St. will close to thru traffic on Wed., March 29th at 9:00 AM and will re-open on Saturday, April 1st at 7:00 AM.
Phase 2 – Intersection of W. Trade St. and Cedar St. will close to thru traffic on Saturday, April 1st at 7:00 AM and will re-open on Sunday, April 2nd at 7:00 PM (map below)
Phase 3 - North Cedar St. between W. Trade St. and W. 5th St. will close to thru traffic on Sunday, April 2nd at 7:00 PM and will re-open on Wednesday, April 5th at 7:00 PM.
Inbound West Trade Street Lane Closure (Uptown)
April 1-2 (updated 3/22/17)
Inbound West Trade Street, between Johnson & Wales Way and South Clarkson Street, will close to thru traffic on Saturday, March 25 at 7 a.m. and will re-open on Sunday, March 26 at 7 p.m. This closure will occur daily with a posted detour.
Motorists should utilize Johnson & Wales Way, W. 4th St., and N. Cedar St. as the detour. Additionally, on-street parking will not be permitted during these hours.
Beatties Ford Road Northbound Lane Closure (West End)
March 21- May 21
The northbound curb lane of Beatties Ford Road, between French Street and Cemetery Street, will close on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 9 a.m. and will re-open on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 6 p.m. This lane closure will be the northbound curb lane only. A through-lane will remain open during this utility work. This closure is necessary for Storm Water utility work. This is not part of the Gold Line project, but is being shared as a courtesy to residents and business owners. Local access to residences and businesses will be maintained.
East 8th Street Road Closure (Elizabeth)
East 8th Street, between Hawthorne Lane to Lamar Avenue, will close to thru traffic on Monday, March 13, 2017 at 9 a.m. and will re-open on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 6 p.m. This closure is necessary for sewer utility work.
Motorist should utilize Hawthorne Lane, East 7th Street and Lamar Avenue as the detour.
Local Access Notes: For those inside the Road Closed Section, please utilize Lamar Avenue to enter and exit. On street parking will not be permitted during construction.
North Irwin Avenue Road Closure (Uptown)
March 6 - April 10 (updated 3/22/2017)
North Irwin Avenue between West Trade Street and W. 5th Street will close to thru traffic on Monday, March 6th at 9:00 a.m. and will re-open on Monday, April 3 at 6:00 a.m.
There will also be lane shifts along West Trade Street and Johnson & Wales Way daily between 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Please utilize W. 5th Street, N. Cedar Street, and W. Trade Street as the detour.
This closure is necessary for sewer utility work and private utility work.
Local Access Notes: Local access to residences and businesses will be maintained. Please follow the Road Closed Local Traffic Only signage, as designated on the map, for this access. For those inside the Road Closed Section along N. Irwin Ave. between W. Trade St. and W. 5th St. please utilize W. 5th St. to enter and exit.
Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled, and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets when planned. When this occurs, City traffic engineers work directly with other City staff and contractors to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling public.
Pedestrians walking near work zone areas should be alert, cautious and allow extra traveling time. It is advised they cross at signalized intersections, use pedestrian walk signals where available and abide by detour signage.
Motorists traveling through work zone areas should be alert and extra cautious. Drivers should get in the correct lane well in advance and constantly be on the lookout for vehicles merging into adjacent travel lanes as they approach a work zone. Drivers should double their following distance.
