Charlotte Water

S. Summit Avenue Information

On May 17, Charlotte Water received a Notice of Deficiency (NOD) from the NC Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ). Citing recent water quality monitoring results and customer concerns, the NOD requested that Charlotte Water address occasionally higher than normal concentrations of iron in drinking water near South Summit Avenue in the Wesley Heights neighborhood. This is not a Notice of Violation but it does require Charlotte Water to develop an Action Plan that will provide assurances to the State and customers that iron concentrations are managed.

Action Plan Activities (in addition to water quality monitoring):

Replacement of 16" Water Main - Construction activities to replace the 16" water main serving S. Summit Avenue begin Monday, September 26 and should last 90-100 days weather permitting. Crews will only work within the street right-of-way and work will begin on Calvert Street then move to S. Summit and then along S. Summit from Litaker Avenue to Morehead Street. S. Summit Avenue between Litaker and Morehead will be closed except for local traffic. Detours will be marked to direct traffic.
