 Project updates

This project will provide pedestrian and bike facilities to safely connect the seven parks and green spaces (five existing and two planned) between the Oakdale and Nevin communities.

The project starts at the RibbonWalk Nature Preserve in northern Mecklenburg County and will end at the intersection of Auten Road and Oakdale Road. Potential improvements include design and construction of the following:

  • A new multiuse path through Firestone Community Park between Griers Grove Road and Auten Road
  • A sidewalk/multiuse path along Cindy Lane
  • A sidewalk/multiuse path and a potential combination of bicycle lanes, on-street parking and landscaping along Griers Grove Road
  • A sidewalk/multiuse path along Auten Road from Firestone Community Park to Oakdale Road

  • To improve pedestrian and bicycle access to neighborhood and regional parks
  • To enhance connectivity between neighborhoods
  • To improve pedestrian and bicycle safety

A public meeting will be held on October 25, 2016 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. View the "project updates" area at the top of the page for meeting details.

The Sunset Beatties Ford CNIP Pre-Planning Study Team held two public meetings in April and September of 2015 to identify seven projects in this area, which includes this project. Visit the Sunset/Beatties Ford CNIP page for details. A public meeting focused on this project will take place in the fall of 2016. Details of the meeting will be posted on this page and on the Citywide Events Calendar once they are determined.

To be determined

The Community Investment Plan approved by City Council in 2013 calls for voters to consider approval of funding for a number of infrastructure programs. Voters approved bond financing in 2014 and 2016 and will vote on further bond financing in 2018 and 2020. For this project, if voters approve funding, City staff engages the community to determine the details of what will ultimately be built. Once these details are known, the cost of the project is estimated and published. Learn more about the Community Investment Plan at http://charlottefuture.com
