Joint Communications Center

Part of the Community Investment Plan

Project phase

 Project updates

This project provides funding for a Joint 911 Communications Center that will house the 911 call centers for Charlotte Fire Department and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and will include a dedicated Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Other occupants of this facility will include CharMeck 311.

Located within the northeast corridor near the Applied Innovation Corridor (AIC) area just outside uptown, this new institution can serve as a catalyst for further redevelopment of the area supporting innovative and technology-based businesses and the creative class that they employ.

  • To provide faster response to life-critical emergencies, resulting in improved survival rates

  • To provide increased efficiencies, infrastructure and operating cost savings by co-locating 911 and 311 communication operations

  • To create opportunities for Fire and Police call takers to assist each other during periods of high call volume

  • To provide adequate room for future growth

Community engagement activities will occur throughout the project’s duration to keep those interested in the project informed and provide opportunities for the public to share ideas, opinions and concerns. Meetings will be posted on this page once they are scheduled.

This project is funded through approved non-bond debt financing for public safety and other municipal facilities totaling $86.3 million.
