East/Southeast Corridor
Project phase

 Project updates

The FY 2014 Community Investment Plan appropriated $25 million for Bojangles Coliseum/Ovens Auditorium area redevelopment as part of the Eastside investments. Following the purchase and demolition of the adjacent Econolodge Motel and construction of 618 additional parking spaces at the site, $18.5 million in original project funding remains.

The Good Sports partner was unable to perform at this location and the city evaluated other options/opportunities for this site.
A hospitality connector facility has been approved as the optimum solution for this campus – adding approximately 35,000 SF in new construction between Oven Auditorium and the Bojangles Coliseum. Anticipated project completion is Fall 2019.

Key objectives of the Bojangles-Ovens Link project include:

  • Enhance key entertainment and tourism assets on the Eastside creating new, strategically located hospitality connector facility
  • Support continued growth in and around the proposed Coliseum/Ovens Station Area
  • Maintain strong historical significance of Coliseum and Ovens Auditorium
  • Strengthen public/private partnerships

Funding will be proposed non-bond debt financing for public safety and other municipal facilities ($25 million in 2014).
