 Project updates

Using existing City assets and public/private partnerships, the Bojangles/Ovens Area redevelopment will create a destination for a defining amateur sports complex capable of hosting major events. ​The site is envisioned to feature the following: 

  • ​Full-size basketball courts adaptable to a variety of configurations and uses 

  • Hotel and retail, including restaurants 

  • Structured parking Green plaza/open amenity space

​Already a regional destination on the East side, planned improvements to the area around Bojangles Arena are intended to create the following: 

  • ​Amateur sports attractions that operate daily for residents and visitors 

  • Additional business to the community Investment opportunities in the area​​​​

Community meetings will be scheduled throughout the project to keep you informed and provide opportunities for residents to share ideas, opinions and concerns with City planners and project managers. ​Funding will be proposed non-bond debt financing for public safety and other municipal facilities ($25 million in 2014).
