Lunch talk with NASCAR artist Sam Bass

Friday, February 10 at noon
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center Lobby

Join us for a lunchtime presentation by NASCAR artist Sam Bass. Fondly known as the first official licensed artist of NASCAR, Bass's iconic illustrations capture the heart-pounding excitement of racing and have defined the sport for millions of fans. Bass will discuss his personal journey that includes a 30-year career in art, a brave battle with Type 1 diabetes and the recent opening of his new studio and gallery near the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord. His story will inspire anyone wishing to take their art to the next level. Several of his works will be available to view, including one of his imaginative guitars.​

Exhibit runs​​ February 1-28, 2017​

The National Arts Program®​  fosters creativity by providing artists of all ages, backgrounds and levels of skill an opportunity to exhibit their works publicly. The National Arts Program Foundation, Inc. sponsors the program in support and cooperation with the Arts & Science Council, the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Library. Local professional artists and art professionals judge the exhibit. Cash awards are given to participants for original, creative contributions in the field of fine arts and crafts ​Similar programs sponsored by the National Arts Program Foundation take place in approximately 200 cities across the United States each year. ​​

On November 14, 2016, the National Arts Program announced increases in all monetary awards in every category!

Best of Show - $400

Adult Professional, Intermediate & Amateur
$350 (1st place), $250 (2nd place), $150 (3rd place)

Teen (13-18 years old) and Youth (12 & under)
$150 (1st place), $100 (2nd place), $50 (3rd place)

Art Education Award - $200
