William C. Maxwell (1883-1884)
Maxwell served as Charlotte's Mayor from 1883 through 1884.
Maxwell was the son of Charlotte's Register of Deeds. He graduated from Davidson College near Charlotte. He was the law partner of former Mayor Frank Osborne.
During his Administration:
- Engineer D.A. Tompkins arrived from Pittsburgh to assert his "New South" influence on Charlotte. (Tompkins was responsible for installing the first electric lights and sewer system in Charlotte and for publishing the Charlotte Observer.)
