Mayor Anthony Foxx, who is currently out of the country leading a delegation in China to advance economic development and energy initiatives, wishes to thank the President and the Vice President as well as the bipartisan House and Senate leadership for their assistance in ensuring that both Charlotte and Tampa would receive the support and assistance of the federal government for the national party conventions.
The conference committee report for Department of Justice funding includes $50 million each for Charlotte and Tampa for the 2012 convention security-related expenses.
"The conference committee has taken a major step towards ensuring the safety of our city and 2012 convention-goers. We eagerly await the bill reaching final passage by Congress and being signed into law," says Mayor Foxx.
Mayor Foxx states: “I am especially proud that we worked in lockstep with our counterparts hosting the Republican National Convention in Tampa for bipartisan support. I especially want to thank our North Carolina congressional delegation for their bipartisan leadership on this issue including Senators Hagan and Burr, Congressmen Watt, Myrick and Kissell, and Congressman Price who we are privileged to have as a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee.”
