Charlotte, NC — Mayor Patsy Kinsey released the below statement today following the news that Phase 2 of the CityLYNX Gold Line, a 2.5-mile extension of the project, did not receive funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) 2013 discretionary grant program.
“Phase 2 of the Gold Line was approved by the City Council on May 28 and the deadline for this round of TIGER grants closed just days later on June 3. With such a quick turnaround, I would have been pleasantly surprised if we had secured a grant this cycle and do not view this as a setback—it represents just one of many funding opportunities the City is vigorously pursuing. If anything, staff should be commended for putting together our application so quickly.”
