Mayor Dan Clodfelter spoke to representatives from Habitat for Humanity Charlotte, Lakewood Community Development Corporation and several other organizations about the importance of volunteer efforts to mark the Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service April 7.
“I celebrate today with 2,630 Mayors and other elected official across our country, the hard work and dedication of the AmeriCorp, AmeriCorps VISTA, and SeniorCorp members provided by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS),” said Clodfelter, “It is obvious our City has benefitted from the service and dedication of these organizations.”
A news conference held at Faith Memorial Baptist Church Fellowship Hall highlighted the contributions of the Corporation for National and Community Service and AmeriCorp members locally and across the nation. Seven local non-profits were recognized: Citizen Schools, Habitat Charlotte, HandsOn Charlotte, Legal Services of the Southern Piedmont, Teach Charlotte, Teach for America, and the Urban Ministry Center.
