Mayor Dan Clodfelter joined the city's Solid Waste Services Services department Nov.14 to discuss the importance of recycling during the America Recycles Day event near the corner of Trade and Tyron. The Sustainability Fair was held in partnership with several outside agencies to promote recycling and increase awareness of various community sustainability efforts.

Clodfelter shared his thoughts on the impact of environmental stewardship and recycling on the overall quality of life in the city.

"Reducing waste has major implications on our economy," said Clodfelter. "Recycling is just one of many ways we can reduce waste. It takes minimal effort, but has a lasting impact."

During the event, attendees had the opportunity to visit booths of different organizations and participate in engaging activities. Verizon Wireless collected used mobile phones for recycling.

Solid Waste Services partnered with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities Department, CharMeck 311, Mecklenburg County Solid Waste Services, Keep Charlotte Beautiful, ReCommunity, V105.3 and Verizon Wireless to host this year's event.
