CFD In the Community

The Charlotte Fire Department Explorer Post was developed in 1982 with a primary purpose of providing fire service career awareness to young men and women.

Over the course of the last 35 years, nearly 500 young adults have enjoyed the memorable experience of learning what it takes to become a  firefighter. More than a dozen former Explorers now work for CFD.

This  hands-on experience is accomplished through a program that utilizes classroom lectures, practical applications, and opportunities to ride along with fire crews. Our program seeks to instill in each explorer member the importance of obtaining a college education, being a responsible citizen, and most of all, striving to be the best that you can be.

Young men and women ages 14-20 are invited to learn what it's really like to be a Charlotte firefighter. Join the Explorers and get exclusive access to real-world experiences, from classroom lessons to riding along in fire-trucks.
